Wilson Ramos Kidnapped – Wilson Ramos the catcher for the Washington Nationals baseball team was kidnapped at gunpoint while visiting his family home in Venezuela.

Ramos, a rising star on the Washington Nationals baseball team was at home with his father and brothers when several men “entered the house and took him away,” according to a person close to Ramos’ family, who asked not to be quoted by name out of safety concerns.

Ramos was abducted and taken away in an SUV by four armed men in Santa Ines in central Carabobo state, according to a spokeswoman for the Venezuelan League team, the Aragua Tigers, with whom Ramos played during off season from U.S. MLB.

According to AP reports Family members of wealthy athletes in Venezuela are often targeted by kidnappers, but this is believed to be the first time an MLB player has been kidnapped. To date there has been no contact with the Ramos family by the kidnappers.

Ramos began his MLB career with the Minnesota Twins and was traded in July 2010 to the Washington Nationals. The Washington Nationals consider Ramos, age 24, to be a significant part of the future success for the baseball team.
