Barack Obama Netanyahu Gaffe – Barack Obama was caught in an embarrassing gaffe overheard making a disparaging remark about Israeli PM Netanyah by members of the French press.
Barack Obama’s embarrassing remark about Israeli PM Netanyahu happened with French PM Nicolas Sarkozy when the two world leaders thought the microphones were switched off during a private conversation at the G20 summit.
Obama and Sarkozy were having a discussion on the surprise French vote to allow admission of the Palestinians into the UN body of UNESCO – a step the U.S.Government is against. According to French news website Arret Sur Images the conversation deteriorated into a ‘bashing’ session on Israeli PM Netanyahu.
Sarkozy: “I can’t stand him… he’s a liar.” Barack Obama chimes in: ‘You’re fed up with him – I have to deal with him every day!”
French officials quickly realised the conversation was being overheard by a few reporters and cut the microphones, Arret Sur Images said. The reporters all had agreed not to disclose what was heard and adhere to the ‘rules of conduct’ that applied to media covering the G20 summit, but one reporter later leaked the details to Arret Sur Images.
