Robert De Niro Plays Bernie Madoff Character – Robert De Niro will play the character of Bernie Madoff in an HBO film about the disgraced financial investment expert.
Robert De Niro will star as Bernie Madoff in the HBO movie ‘Truth and Consequences: Life Inside the Madoff Family’ which was written in conjunction with Madoff’s son Andrew, his wife Ruth and other family members. The ‘Truth and Consequences’ book was authored by Laurie Sandell, and describes the family’s struggles over a four year period following Madoff’s arrest. Included in the book is the claim that both Bernie and Ruth Madoff attempted suicide after the fraud became public.
The movie will also touch on the death of Mark Madoff, who committed suicide by hanging himself with a dog leash on the second anniversary of Bernie Madoff’s arrest. Madoff’s sons Andrew and Mark took some of the credit for their father’s arrest after going to the FBI with information about Bernie’s multi-billion dollar Ponzi scheme.
De Niro will combine his role of Bernie Madoff with that of executive producer, along with co-executive producer Jane Rosenthal, his partner in Tribeca Productions.
Robert De Niro is no stranger to playing criminal fictional characters; he starred in The Godfather Part II (Vito Corleone), Goodfellas (James Conway) and Casino (Sam) are among the many fine criminal character moments he has had on screen.
There is certainly no lack of sensational material for De Niro to work from in this new role. Tribeca Productions teaming with HBO will no doubt be incredibly successful in bringing the true stroy behind the crime to the screen.
